Helferei, Switzerland
Parachilna
For a private building in Switzerland, in collaboration with Joos & Mathys Architects, Parachilna created two monumental ceiling lamps for the stairway of the historic Helferei. The name “Helferei” traditionally refers to the residence of a parish helper, and in Zurich it has become synonymous with historic parish houses—spaces rich with cultural and architectural heritage.
Inspired by Japanese square geometries, the lamps rise dramatically through the stairwell, each extending over nine meters in height. Their elongated, vertical form accentuates the architecture while guiding visitors upward with light and rhythm.
Constructed entirely from steel, the two fixtures are not only striking in scale but also remarkable in precision, embodying Parachilna’s commitment to craftsmanship and humble luxury. More than functional pieces, they serve as sculptural interventions—anchoring the stairwell with presence, elegance, and a quiet dialogue between tradition and modernity.
